The winter season is the most important time of year to have a fully functional heating system, which makes heater repair a top priority when it’s cold outside. But how do you know you need this valuable service besides waking up to a cold house?
Here are three of the biggest early indicators that your heater needs to be repaired:
- Warm or lukewarm air. The job of your heater is to produce hot air, not warm or lukewarm air. This is because the air coming from your heater will mix with the naturally cold air produced by cold outdoor temperatures. Air that’s only warm rather than hot won’t raise your indoor temperature sufficiently enough to keep you comfortable. Place your hands by your vents when the heater is turned on, and if the air isn’t hot, call an HVAC technician.
- Loud sounds. Most machinery is going to produce some sort of noise while it’s at work, but any changes to that noise are cause for concern. If your heater has recently started sounding much louder than before, you’ll want to hire a heater repair service even if your air is still getting the hot air it needs. Loud noises usually precede larger heater issues.
- Uneven heating. A healthy heating system will keep all rooms of the home heated, not just the ones closest to it. If some rooms of your home are warm but others never seem to get to a comfortable temperature, it’s likely that your heater is wearing down and will need a repair service to keep the entire home heated.
